How the hunt works
Save just before the gift dialogue, accept, then check the Pokémon in your party. If it isn't shiny, reset and repeat. Some gifts are shiny locked and can never be shiny.
Pokémon Blue (JP) has no shiny Pokémon at all, so this method is listed for encounter data only.
